about hamilton ontario solar energy microfit program

We know you will have many questions about Solar Up Energy, Westinghouse Solar panels and the Ontario Power Authority's microFIT program. We've anticipated a few here, but feel free to send us a note or call us at 1-888-518-4458 to get more information or to book your free on-site consultation.

Does every house qualify for the microFIT Program?

No. Qualification depends on the size of your property and the direction your roof faces. Your free on-site consultation and site survey will determine the suitability and potential of your property.

How much power will I generate?

We can't tell you for sure without a site survey. We will send an expert to assess your rooftop and we will study historical sunlight patterns for your precise location. We will conduct a RETScreen analysis to determine the earnings potential of your solar panels as well as the positive impact your project will have on the environment.

How can I keep track of how much power I'm generating?

Your installation includes a software package that lets you follow, in real time, how much electricity your rooftop solar panels are generating.

What does it cost?

Pricing will depend on the size of your installation. Following your site survey, we will be able to produce your Personalized Earnings Plan that will identify your costs and likely earnings. A typical 20-year project pays for itself in 8-10 years, leaving you with many years of straight profit. The initial site survey will cost you $500. If it turns out that your property does not qualify for participation in the microFIT Program, that money will be returned to you promptly. Otherwise, it will be used as a deposit on your Solar Up Energy installation.

Do I have to declare my microFIT earnings as income?

Yes, but that means you can also enjoy some tax benefits including depreciation on the panels and the declaration of other expenses. In essence, you will be seen as a small business selling electricity to the Ontario Power Authority. We'll help you understand how it all works so that you can optimize the opportunity. We'll give you the best advice under the sun.

What if I move?

No problem. The new owners of your home will enjoy a seamless takeover of your contract with the Ontario Power Authority. And the fact that you have money-generating panels on the roof will have a positive impact on the value of your house.

What about snow?

Modest amounts of snow falling on the panels will typically melt in a day. If there's a major snowfall, Solar Up Energy can have the snow removed from the panels.

What kind of maintenance is involved?

Very little. That said, it is still a good idea to have the system checked regularly and make sure there is nothing obstructing the penetration of the sun. Solar Up Energy offers service contracts, or you can call us when you need us. The panels come with an exceptional and comprehensive warranty.

Why doesn't everyone have panels on their roof yet?

The microFIT Program is still relatively new. What we've heard from our new customers is that they didn't know much about the program. Those that knew about it, thought the logistics and paperwork made it intimidating. That's where Solar Up Energy comes in. We handle all of the paperwork, permits, contracts and the installation. Yes - it's complex. But you won't have to do any of the heavy lifting. That's our job.
