In October 2009, the Ontario Power Authority started to accept contract applications for its microFIT Program, designed to promote the expansion of the province's green energy capacity.
Under the plan, the OPA pays businesses and homeowners 80.2 cents per kilowatt-hour of energy generated by solar panels installed on private rooftops. In essence, businesses and individuals can sell power to the OPA.
Passionate about environmental stewardship, we were impressed by the program and proud to launch Solar Up Energy in 2009. The program makes sense for consumers, for the province and for the planet. We see this not only as a business opportunity, but as an opportunity to enable the reduction of greenhouse gases and to help promote a greener, more sustainable future for us all.
Even though the program is relatively new, we've already helped customers sign-up for the microFIT program and have installed panels in Hamilton, Oakville, Missisauga and elsewhere in the Golden Horseshoe and Southern Ontario. We've learned that Ontarians are quick to embrace programs that are creative and responsible; and we've also learned that stellar customer service is essential.
